Happy Birthday Niels Bohr

Last week I introduced the Bohr model of the atom.  Neils Bohr would have been 127 years old today. In commemoration, this was the doodle art on Google.com today:

Hopefully you can recognize and understand some of the symbolism in this figure.  See if you can figure it out.  We will discuss in class.

For more info, I recommend you see this link for the Bohr model of the atom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohr_model

Answer Keys to Previous Exam I

The first exam will be Tuesday, September 25, during lecture. It will cover Chapters 1-4. Here are some exams from previous times that I have taught this course that you can use in your preparation for the first exam. Do be aware that the material covered was not always exactly the same. Hopefully this will be of use to you, but DO NOT use them as your ONLY source for studying the material.

Welcome to the Fall 2012 Version of Chem 1415

SmileyCentral.com Welcome to Dr. T's Chem Blog.  This is here primarily for my undergraduate course this semester, Chemistry 1415, General Chemistry for Engineering Majors.  I will post a variety of notices here throughout the semester, so check back often or subscribe.

Here are a few things to get us started:

  1. I was finally able to spend some time this weekend updating the Chemistry 1415 course website.  It is now up and operational:  http://courses.unt.edu/rthomas/Chem1415/1415.htm  Feel free to check it out.
  2. The class lecture will be in Chemistry Room 109.  NOTE:  This was changed several weeks ago to accommodate the large enrollment for this class.  Also, another recitation section was added.  See the course website for details of time and place.
  3. The teaching assistant for this class will be Chauncey Garrett, but I do not yet have the time and location for his office hours. I may have that information by the time of the first class on Thursday, August 30.  The TA has been changed.  Please see next blog entry.
I will post more information as it becomes available.  I look forward to seeing everyone in class on Thursday morning.
